18 Months and lots of “eye eyes”

February 8, 2014

First off, thanks to everyone for such amazing gifts at Christmas.  We are not going to get around to thank you cards this year. There is just too much going on, so I just wanted to say thank you here.

I feel like every three months we have a new kid. He just grows and develops so fast. We are constantly figuring him out then realizing we know nothing because he has changed already. The last three months have brought us the gift of speech! Jonen is now a talker and has told us his first full on story. He loves books and for some reason there are butterflies in almost all his books. Jonen finds them and points them out saying “eye eye” for butterfly. I thought it would be fun to take him to the butterfly room at the Science Center. He was in love! He was just staring at the butterflies and concentrating so hard.  Some butterflies were landing on him and flowers all around.  When we got home, he told us over and over for 4 days straight how a butterfly landed on his hand.  It was so precious!

Jonen is LOVING books right now.  He has two or three open on his table at all times.  He points at things in the book and says, “this, this”, so Mama or Daddy will tell him what everything is.  He is so curious!  This curiosity is also causing some normal toddler tantrums.  He doesn’t understand why he doesn’t get to stir the soup when it’s on the stove or pound his spoon on the table or run outside by himself.

Jonen was in another experiment at the University of Washington. He was pretty amazing.  They were testing whether you can use video as instructions for kids his age.  He figured out three out of four of the “toys” based on the video. He weighted in at almost 25 pounds and is almost 33 inches tall at his 18 month appointment, so he is staying at the 50% for weight and 60% for height.  We turned his car seat around in the car this week.  It is so nice to have him facing forward!

OH!  Jonen LOVES football.  He points at the television and says touchdown.  (The only time our tv is on is for football.) We had a Superbowl party, so he has some major Seahawks love going on.  Jonen even does a bit of a dance. OH!  He also has to bow everyday at the end of school, so that is pretty fun to see hi
