20 months old – Jonen is speaking Japanese!

March 30, 2014

Jonen now speaks a second language. Ha Ha! His teachers said he now knows some colors and fruits in Japanese.  He even walked in his classroom and said Ohayo (good morning) the other day. They are impressed with how much he talks. I think he gets the excessive talking from me and the language ability from Brandon.

Jonen’s Japanese language acquisition coincides nicely with our homestay students. Tomo was here for two weeks and then we got a call a couple weeks ago asking if we could take another student, Yuri. (Yuri was staying down the street, but the basement flooded.) So Yuri got to stay with us a couple of weeks as well. We had a BBQ and 8 or 9 of the students came over (more would have showed up, but Tomo sent out the wrong address…whoops!). We really love having an extra person in the house so much that we are going to host another person next week for just a week. They might be from Japan or somewhere in Southeast Asia. Check out the iLeap program they are coming in on, it is so amazing the work that these people are doing! So just keep in mind we have an extra room and don’t mind short notice for any visits!

Okay other cute stuff Jonen is doing. He has to feed, cloth, change diapers, and put his Ernie doll to sleep. (Basically, he likes to do what we do!) He “makes” us food in his kitchen. His specialty is smoothies and eggs. Jonen and I have made a lot of bread over the last month as well.  He helps with the kneading and names all of the ingredients. His favorite song is Run Baby Run by Caspar Babypants. He says run, run, so we will play the song. He sings a lot now. We are not sure what he is singing, but he loves it. He counts to one now, or he just says one. I like to think he is actually counting. I talk about Brandon a lot when he is not around, so Jonen sometimes says Brandon instead of Daddy. Whoops! He “helps” us out in the garden and mostly pulls out the weeds.  He really just likes to water the plants. I love Tracy Anderson dance videos, and Jonen does them with me. So he knows the words squat and touch your toes. I know there was something else I wanted to add, but I can’t remember it!

His first couple of “sentences” – Daddy trash can bye bye & Book read.

Just a super cute age as long as he has enough sleep and food and is close to Mama, all is good with the world!

Thanks for the replies! I don’t always know if people read our blog, so it is good to get feedback. Nikki – recognize those chopsticks? Your mom got them for us for our wedding!
