Our lives…a snapshot in February 2016

February 17, 2016

We hope everyone is having a great February so far! We thought we would share our exciting news here.

Brandon and I have decided that Jonen will become a big brother through open adoption. It has been a big decision for us and a LOT of work. Luckily, I’m great at completing lists and paperwork, so it has been a pretty quick process for us. (We got accepted into the agency in early November and are now officially waiting to be matched with a birth family.) We are very happy to be working with a great agency in Oregon. We will adopt domestically with the child being born in Washington or Oregon. Please just pray/send us positive energy that we will be matched with the right baby and birth family for us. We hope it is a short wait, but the average is around a year. I am not the most patient person, so let’s hope it is sooner. Feel free to look at our profile online here. We appreciate all the support we can get right now, both emotionally and financially. It is strange to bring money up, but adoption is EXPENSIVE and we have to open ourselves up to our community. If you feel compelled, feel free to donate.

As for preparing Jonen, we are starting read adoption books and talk with him about how we have extra love to give and how we want to add another member to our family. Some days he says he has extra love as well. Other days he says he has given out all his love. He also told us babies are on sale right now for 40% off. I wish!! Ha! He has also told us repeatedly that he would love to be a big brother, and we are so happy we are doing everything we can to complete our family.

We also need to educate our family and friends as a part of our adoption service plan. Please feel free to ask me any questions you might have about adoption. I’m happy to talk about our process so far to provide a positive environment for our future child. One great resource is to learn positive adoption language. Here is one great resource

Other highlights from the last month:

  • Beth and Bran had to go to an adoption education class in Portland, so Jonen got to have a weekend with Nana.
  • Jonen had his first ear infection and had to take antibiotics for the first time. Blah.
  • Fan Fest at Safeco!!
  • Peyton Manning won the Superbowl!
  • Snow play in the mountains.
  • Lots of baking/cooking/family dance parties/dinners with friends.
